JACKSONVILLE, Ore. — Ruch Elementary School is offering preschool for the first time this year, but education officials say the expansion has been in the works for the past two years. They hope the preschool will better serve the needs of their community.
Currently, there are only five students enrolled now, but school officials said they are expecting more to register in the next few day.
The preschool runs from 7:30 a.m. in the morning to noon on Tuesday through Friday. There is also an aftercare program available for both preschool and kindergarten students from noon to 3:30 p.m. The preschool is being facilitated by the YMCA.
“There’s a lot of certifications involved, and the YMCA is very well versed with offering preschool opportunities in the Medford School District — and because we already have a contract with them and it’s worked so well in the past it just seemed like a perfect fit,” said Ruch Elementary principal, Julie Hill.
Preschool students are learning colors, numbers, and writing skills to prepare them for kindergarten.
