MEDFORD, Ore. – The Medford Rogues played a non-league doubleheader on Saturday, but the outcome mattered less than a game being played four hours away. The Walla Walla Sweets beat the Bend Elks 5-3 sending Bend to its fifth consecutive loss. The Elks’ losing streak helps Medford as the Rogues move within 0.5 games of Bend for the second divisional playoff spot in the West Coast League South Division.
As for Medford, it closed out the season on Saturday with a non-league doubleheader against the Central Oregon Bucks. Medford coaches Josh Hogan and Dylan Jones played in both games, and former Oregon State and Ashland outfielder Max Gordon also took part in the event. The Rogues lost the first game 1-0 but came back to win the second game 7-6.
Bend wraps up the regular season on Sunday at 5:05 pm against Walla Walla. The Rogues’ season is over unless the Sweets can sweep the Elks. If the Elks lose, Medford will host Corvallis on Tuesday in the first game of the WCL postseason.
