Kim Stearns, an information officer with the airport, says in her 18 years at the airport she’s only seen closures a handful of times.
“Once it’s closed it won’t be re-opened until the runway is cleared,” said Stearns. “So it is a pretty substantial decision.”
While runways are typically cleared in a matter of hours once the snow stops, some passengers were told by their airlines they had to wait until Sunday or Monday to get alternate flights.
Some said they couldn’t get reimbursement for hotel rooms.
Three snowplows from the Jackson County Roads department helped with runway cleanup.
