MEDFORD, Ore. — An Eagle Point man is behind bars after he threatened employees of Food 4 Less with a knife after shop lifting some items Monday morning.
Police say 22-year-old Leonel Olvera-Hernandez, Jr. was stopped by store employees after shoplifting $30 worth of cold medication and a key ring.
Police say Olvera-Hernandez then threatened employees with a knife and said he had a gun in his car. Police say although the suspect eventually was cooperative, the threats escalated his charges.
“The problem here is that this guy displayed a knife during a theft and essentially made this a much bigger problem than it needed to be. he put other people’s lives at risk over a petty theft and that’s inexcusible,” said Medford Police Lt. Mike Budreau.
Olvera-Hernandez, Jr. faces charges of first and second degree robbery and third degree theft.
