Oregon St. is looking for someone to emerge in the running back battle this month at fall camp. The Beavers were among the worst teams in the NCAA in running the football in 2011. Malcolm Agnew was the team’s leading rusher with 431 yards, with more than half of those coming in the first game of the season. A workhorse-type back hasn’t emerged yet for the Beavers, but head coach Mike Riley wants to find one guy to handle a bulk of the carries.
“I hope it’s not a committee, committee,” said Riley. “What I would say is if it’s one guy that’s good, if it’s two, that’s OK. If we can get 1700 yards, if it’s one guy or two guys, I really don’t care.”
In addition to Agnew, other running backs in the mix for some playing time include Terron Ward, and freshmen Storm Woods and Chris Brown.
