MEDFORD, Ore. – While some may be happy about the lingering summer, it’s cause for concern as hunters head out for the western deer season.
Friday is the deadline for hunters to get their tags to take part in the season. The season starts Saturday, but with the fire danger level still at extreme, there are several closures on private lands.
The Oregon Forest Industries Council estimates about 50% more private lands are closed this year than at this same time last year. National Forest and Bureau of Land Management lands will still be open.
Oregon Department of Forestry would like to remind the public that no off-road driving is permitted, campfires are only allowed in designated campgrounds and smoking is only allowed in an enclosed vehicle, building or designated campsite.
