ASHLAND, Ore. — More than a hundred Southern Oregon residents dropped off would-be fire fuel this weekend. It was part of an event put on by the Ashland Firewise Community Group. The group’s organizers urge residents in fire-prone communities to remove anything that will burn when it’s dry, like branches or leaves.
This creates what they call defensible space around a home. “We’re going to have an active fire season and we really want to encourage homeowners to take this opportunity to get their homes and properties ready for fire season,” said Firewise Community’s Ali True.
