A Tuesday forum at the Jackson County Library featured all five republican candidates vying for senator Jeff Merkley’s seat in a moderated town-hall style setting.
The chairman of the Jackson County Republican Party says their big challenge will be to reach out to younger voters, and to do that they’ll have to reach across the aisle.
“They’ll have to prove that they have the ability to work with people with different viewpoints, whether it be a different party or even a different viewpoint within the Republican Party,” said Jackson County Republican Party Chairman Chuck Heauser. “People are looking for results.”
Questions at the forum to centered on the economy, including Oregon’s timber future.
The Oregon republican party is hoping to have its first candidate in the U.S. Senate in six years.
