22 people died from hospital errors in Oregon last year. That’s according to a new report by the Oregon Safety Commission.
The commission says 142 errors were reported in 2011. That’s up from about 125 the year before. Of those 88 involved, serious harm to patients were reported. Surgical teams left foreign objects, like sponges, in 27 patients.
The report says this is not an indication that more events are occurring, but rather Oregon hospitals are improving their ability to identify these events. Individual hospitals were not named specifically in this report.
