EUGENE, Ore. — After three days of fluidity and uncertainty, sources in Eugene confirmed that University of Oregon head football coach Chip Kelly will not leave for the NFL.
On Saturday, there were reports of Kelly close to a deal with the Cleveland Browns. On Sunday, the Browns chose to move on from Kelly and sources said Kelly was deciding between the Philadelphia Eagles and returning to college coaching.
Then a tweet from ESPN reporter Adam Schefter confirmed Kelly’s return. Eventually, two reliable sources inside the university confirmed Schefter’s report. Kelly is expected to attend the American Football Coaches Association convention in Nashville, TN this week. One inside source said Kelly continued to recruit despite the NFL interviews.
