ASHLAND, Ore. – Award-winning actors are in Southern Oregon shooting scenes for a feature film coming this summer. Crew members are out at Mountain Meadows community filming scenes.
The film is called “Redwood Highway”. Twice-nominated for an Academy Award and two-time Emmy winner Shirley Knight is the main character. She plays a strong-willed woman who decides to walk 80 miles from Grants Pass to the Oregon coast. Along the way she comes across different scenarios.
The producer says for the movie, the retirement center in Ashland will be filmed as if it was in Grants Pass. He says the film will feature all of the beautiful parts of Southern Oregon like the Redwood Highway downtown Grants Pass, Cave Junction and Lake Selmac.
“And I think it has to do a lot to do with the energy of the Rogue Valley. It’s a special place, and those of us who live here know that. But i think maybe Hollywood and independent film in general is beginning to notice that as well. If that continues, we’re going to see a lot more of this,” said producer and screen writer, James Twyman
Other characters featured in the film include local actors from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Most of the crew members helping shoot this film also live in Southern Oregon. Producers are hoping to film in the Southern Oregon area for three days and then head out to the coast to shoot more scenes. Redwood Highway will be released nationwide this summer.
