CORVALLIS, Ore. – The score at halftime was 35-0 and the Beavers did not let up in the second half. Nicholls State (1-10) was completely unmatched and Oregon State exploited nearly every deficiency shown by the Colonels. The final score was 77-3.
The 77 points broke the school’s all-time record set previously in 1931 with a 76-0 victory over Willamette. Another record was set by senior wide receiver Markus Wheaton who caught his 223rd career pass with Oregon State, breaking the record previously held by James Rodgers. Wheaton did not play in the second half.
Nine different players scored touchdowns as the team amassed 683 total yards in the victory. Both Sean Mannion and Cody Vaz played significant minutes. Neither quarterback turned the ball over.
The Beavers will learn which bowl game they are invited to on Sunday, and this was the best possible way to enter bowl season.
