Record Breaking Heat Continues!

video preview image

For the third time this year Mt. Shasta has broken a record heat day, warming to 94 degrees yesterday beats the previous record of 92 degrees from 2003.  Montague was just one degree shy of a record high yesterday warming to 97 degrees. Tomorrow will be the hottest day of the week and thus the year! Mt. Shasta will shatter the previous record of 86 degrees warming back into the 90s! Klamath Falls will be only a degree or two shy of a record, but Medford will still be about 5 away from the record. The coast will also be warmer and sunny today once the marine layer lifts this morning.

After tomorrow’s record breaking heat temperatures will start to ease up, although Sunday will still be a hot day, next week will be much cooler. Before we see the cool down though the warm temperatures will create instability and a cut-off low rotating off the central California coast will push into our region bringing a chance for evening thunderstorms Sunday and Monday for northern California and along and east of the Cascades.

Next week an upper level trough will bring cooler, more seasonable weather to the Pacific Northwest. While we could see a few sprinkles this is mainly a dry event, just a cool one. Until we get to to next week it will be hot this weekend! Remember to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen, and don’t forget about keeping your pets cool too!
