Down 28-17, the Southern Oregon Raiders scored four straight touchdowns in the fourth quarter to beat St. Ambrose 45-28 in the first round of the NAIA Playoffs. The Raiders had modest offensive numbers by their standards, but still gained 547 total yards. Austin Dodge threw for 307 yards and three touchdowns while Manny Barragan had 192 yards on the ground.
A Mike Olson touchdown run gave the Raiders the lead less than 90 seconds into the game. SOU led St. Ambrose 17-6 after the first quarter. However, the Bees responded with a 22 point second quarter to lead 28-17 at halftime. That was the score heading into the fourth when Dodge hit Patrick Donahue for a 38 yard touchdown. Then minutes later Dodge connected with Cole McKenzie to give the Raiders the lead.
Barragan extended the lead to 10 with a touchdown run with less than five minutes to go. A Josh Leff pick six sealed the deal for the Raiders, who advance to next week’s quarterfinals.
