OLYMPIA, Wash. — Recreational marijuana use is now legal in Washington, and the state is trying to establish laws over how pot should be bought and sold.
The effort will focus on setting up a system of controls over growing pot, as well as testing guidelines for quality, and what levels of security retailers should be required to maintain. The goal is also to limit to the number of stores. This will be based on county size and the state is saying, don’t expect any “Costco-sized” outlets for pot any time soon.
A unique part of the Washington law-as-propose, is a 30 day window, when anyone can apply for a growing license, regardless of size of operation and purpose. The first legal pot sales are expected by March of next year.
