MEDFORD, Ore. — A greenway extension could soon be coming to Medford.
The Medford City Council is looking into expanding the Larson Greenway. Currently the Greenway stretches from Black Oak Drive east for about a half mile, but the council wants to expand it and connect it with the Bear Creek Greenway across Barnett Road.
They cannot add pedestrian or bike paths to Barnett, however, so they have to find other ways of connecting the two paths. This could mean enacting “eminent domain” to acquire the land they need.
“There’s a possibility that we are going to have to condemn the ride way, and of course our first choice is to work out a way we can purchase it. We don’t want to have to take people’s property away, but this is something that benefits the whole community and this is a project that needs to get done,” said Medford City Council Daniel Bunn.
The expansion will cost an estimated $500,000. There is no timeline on when it will begin or when it will be complete.
