EUGENE, Ore. — Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting near Churchill High School. It happened at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.
A Eugene police officer called for emergency cover and a modified lockdown at the school. Shortly after, shots were fired and a 44-year-old man was pronounced dead outside to the south of Churchill High School.
A witness told KEZI 9 News the person shot and killed lives in a nearby apartment complex.
Eugene Police released a statement on the incident, saying there is no known ongoing threat to students or public at this time. Students are being allowed to leave via the north entrance. Kennedy is also no longer on lockdown.
Eugene Police say Lane County’s Interagency Deadly Force Investigation Team will respond to investigate.
