Police Make Arrest in Homicide Case

InmateROSEBURG, Ore. — Roseburg Police have arrested a suspect in a homicide case that left a 23-year-old woman dead.

Police responded to a residence on NE Jacobson Street in Roseburg just after 8:45 pm on Tuesday, where they say someone fatally shot 23-year-old Ashley Davis of Roseburg.

Roseburg Police arrested 19-year-old Michael Gardner Tuesday night on a felony warrant for an unrelated case, but they say he is a suspect in Tuesday’s shooting.

“Davis was treated at the scene and then transported to the Mercy Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries,” said Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch with the Roseburg Police Department.

Police say neither Gardner nor Davis lived at the residence.

“They both had connections to the residence either past or present,” Eichenbusch said. “The victim and suspect were known to each other, but I can’t go in to any more detail at this time.”

Police say a resident of the house, 51-year-old Kathy Marshall, was also injured, but they are not sure if she was shot.

“It’s unclear if that injury was due to a gunshot or not, but she was treated and released,” Eichenbusch said.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team is continuing to investigate the homicide. The team has officials from the Roseburg Police Department, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab.

On Wednesday, the team taped off the street while it continued its investigation.

“Any time there is a homicide or a death investigation there’s a lot of background investigation that goes on for quite some time,” Eichenbusch said.

I went to school with Michael and he was also my next door neighbor and was never a threat he was always mellow and was one of my good friend so I personally believe that drugs were a huge factor in this incident.
