Police Investigate Shots Fired in Air

IMG_20140803_120023ASHLAND, Ore. — Ashland Police are investigating a report of shots fired in the area of Quincy Street between Wightman and California Streets.

Police report several rounds were fired from a handgun at around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. Multiple witnesses told police that the rounds were not aimed at anyone or any structure, but were fired into the air.

“It could have been drug related, it could have been just a grossly inappropriate time to shoot off a firearm. We won’t know what the person’s motivation is until we catch up with them,” said Deputy Chief Tighe O’Meara.

There were no reports of any injuries. Officers found six shell casings, but no bullet holes, and no reports of any damaged property. Ashland Police say, while no one was injured in this case, firing shots into the air is still dangerous, and recklessly firing into the air is a criminal act.

The suspect vehicle is described as a smaller light colored (possibly primer gray) sedan in poor condition with a loud exhaust, occupied by 2-3 white males. Anyone with information on this incident that has not been contacted by the police is encouraged to call the Ashland Police at 541-482-5211.
