Police Investigate Early Morning Arsons

MEDFORD, Ore. — Two similar fires that were extinguished Thursday morning have been determined to be arson by the Medford Police.

The first fire was reported at 12:27 a.m., when Medford Fire and Rescue responded to a small fire in the alley north of the 800 block of W. 2nd Street, near Columbus. The fire caused some landscaping damage, but was quickly extinguished and personnel cleared the scene.

Hours later, at 3:04 a.m., Medford Police and Medford Fire responded to the same alley for a different fire that was 200 feet away from the first one. This fire burned a grassy area as well as a fence, but Medford Fire was able to extinguish it before it spread to residences.

Medford Police said investigators discovered evidence of another fire in the same location, also to a wood fence, and was determined to be about two weeks old. All three fires were labeled as arson. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Medford Police, attention Det. Bill Ford, 774-2230.
