Police Find Attempted Murder Suspect

MEDFORD, Ore. – After months of searching, and a little luck, Medford Police finally have their hands on a shooting suspect.

21-year-old Jose Macias was arrested in Fresno, California in connection to a gang-related shooting at an apartment complex on Crater Lake Avenue in Medford on March 27.

Medford Police had searched for Macias after the incident, and the suspect was indicted on an attempted murder charge in August. After months with no sign of Macias, officers believed he had left the area.

We were looking for him pretty hot and heavy and I think he became aware of that and ultimately skipped town to try to evade the arrest, but it wasn’t successful,” said Medford Police Lt. Mike Budreau.

Budreau said Fresno Police contacted Macias on September 19th, and found out about the warrant for his arrest in Medford. Budreau did not have details on the arrest, but said Medford Police had not directly contacted Fresno PD prior to the arrest.

Macias is in the process of being extradited to Medford. Police expect him to be back in the Rogue Valley by early October.
