MEDFORD, Ore. — Scammers are coming up with new ways to target the elderly but Medford Police are working to educate potential victims.
Every month, Sgt. Brent Mak and community services officer Todd Sales go out to several retirement homes. They give presentations on identity theft issues .and common scams targeting elderly people. One participant from a presentation Wednesday says he learned about several new scams and plans to be more careful.
“It was very helpful. I think we all need to be alert to all the scams that are going on in the world,” said Hans Stroo.
“From our point of view, all of the outreach that we do, literally if this stops one person from being victimized then its worth all of the time and energy we put into it,” said Sgt. Brent Mak.
Police also hand out information on city resources during the presentations.
