NEAR MURPHY, Ore. — Oregon State Police say a driver in a stolen car crashed after trying to outrun troopers.
OSP was monitoring traffic along Highway 238 near Murphy around 5:00 p.m. Monday when they got word that a stolen 2005 Mustang was heading in their direction.
When the driver saw state police, troopers say he sped up but they had already laid spike strips, which punctured at least one of the tires. Troopers say the driver tried an evasive maneuver and ended up flipping the mustang.
The driver, 29-year-old Eddie Joseph Correia, Jr., from Grants Pass, was transported by ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital for treatment of injuries. Police said he was using safety restraints.
Troopers say the car was stolen from a dealership a couple of weeks ago and the suspect driver has been involved in a couple of chases with area police.
