Police Arrest Talent Assault Suspect

Ray Howard FordTALENT, Ore. — Talent Police, Phoenix Police and Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a domestic assault at one of the RV units on West Valley View Drive Sunday morning.

Police say a 37-year-old woman reported she had been seriously assaulted by her live-in boyfriend throughout the night and he had kept her from leaving. According to a press release, the woman reported he also broke her cell phone and threatened to kill her and the 16-month-old grandchild she was babysitting.

Police say after they entered the travel trailer, the suspect had already fled. Officers found the child unharmed inside the travel trailer.

Officials say Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy and a K9 unit, among other law enforcement agencies searched the Bear Creek bike path area for the suspect who likely fled into the creek at one point.

Officers returned to the location later Sunday afternoon and found the suspect had returned to the travel trailer. Ray Ford, 40, is now lodged in the Jackson County Jail. Police say he had warrants for his arrest out of California, one reporting he was armed and dangerous.

The child is back with his/her parents. The woman is recovering from injuries after being released from Rogue Regional Medical Center.
