MEDFORD, Ore. — Medford Police have arrested a suspect connected to a stabbing that occurred in downtown Medford last Sunday, shortly after 2:00 a.m. Aaron Riley Westensee, 25, of Central Point was arrested today on charges of Attempted Murder, and Attempted Assault in the first degree. He is lodged in the Jackson County Jail and being held with $2,000,000 bail.
Detectives with Medford Police were able to identify all of the involved parties in the incident. There were a total of eight males who were involved in a verbal dispute which occurred just prior to the stabbing. The dispute between the parties was determined to go back several months and there is a history of assault behavior among the parties.
During the incident on Sunday morning, many of the involved parties were intoxicated when they came across each other in the downtown area. Police determined that Aaron Westensee produced a knife and began menacing the victim and his group of friends. The victim fled on foot and Westensee chased after him. When he eventually caught up to the victim, he stabbed him three times in the torso.
Westensee and his two companions fled the scene, but the victim and his four associates remained at the scene and called 911.
Police are continuing to interview the eight individuals who were involved in the incident. While the investigation is ongoing, the victim’s name is not being released. However, Police can confirm that the victim is a 28-year old Medford resident. He remains at Rogue Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.
