Police Amp Up Patrols

Memorial Day PatrolsMEDFORD, Ore. — Police from across the rogue area are joining forces and cracking down on drinking and driving this Memorial Day weekend.

Starting Friday night, extra officers will be on duty.  Medford Police plan on having anywhere between two to ten extra deputies on the streets at all times.

Officers said they do see an increase in drinking and driving over the holiday weekend.  They also see an increase in emergency calls.  If you do plan on drinking, police say it’s a good idea to have a designated driver or a taxi lined up ahead of time.

“The slogan is buzzed driving is drunk driving, well that is true, if you are feeling buzzed that means the alcohol is having an effect on you… there is a good chance that a mental or physical faculty impaired,” said Sgt. Don Lane.

The saturation patrols are funded though federal grants, and will be in place through Monday.
