The burst started off with reports of an explosion but ended up leaving one classroom with only minor flood damage.
Fire district five arrived on the scene around 11:15 Sunday morning. The burst was called in by Talent sixth grader Owen Patterson.
Patterson’s mom teaches at phoenix elementary – he said he was helping her set up her classroom when he heard a strange sound and went to investigate.
“You could see electric plugs sparking and you could see the flash,” said Patterson.
Vince locket, Fire District Five Captain, says the scene could have been much worse had it not been called in so early.
It took firefighters around an hour to shut off the electrical power and boiler, and mop up all the flooding. In total, one classroom received only minor water damage.
