Phoenix-Talent Superintendent to Retire

Ben BergreenPHOENIX, Ore. — After a decade of leading the district, Phoenix-Talent Superintendent Ben Bergreen is set to retire by the end of the month.

Bergreen is retiring to spend time with his family after 36 years in education. He’ll be replaced by the current Director of Instructional Services Teresa Sayre.

School board members say over the past decade the district has worked hard to maintain staff and keep class sizes down despite budget shortfalls. They say their priority is to stay the course and restore programs that have been cut.

“We’d love to get music back into the elementary schools, arts, expand options for kids, but that takes finances, and we’ll keep doing what we can with what we have,” said school board member Nate Shinn.

Shinn says the school board has a long and positive relationship with Sayre. They say welcome the new leadership.
