PHOENIX, Ore., – One week after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., people in the Rogue Valley looked for a way to honor the memory of the victims.
More than 20 people arrived at the track at Phoenix High School on Friday afternoon to participate in an event dedicated to the shooting victims. Participants walked around the school’s track for 27 minutes; one minute for each victim.
“It’s impacted me,” said Vanessa Jimenez, who organized the event. “I’m a mom of two boys, and so I just kind of want to get the community together just so we can grieve and mourn and just show support for the city of Newtown, but also to know that in a time of need our community can gather around together and care for one another.”
The group also collected money to donate to a memorial fund for the Sandy Hook victims.
