MEDFORD, Ore. — Princess, our NewsWatch 12 Pet of the Week, is a 1-year-old cat from the Jackson County Animal Shelter. To adopt Princess, call the Shelter at 541-774-6654. It’s located at 5595 South Pacific Highway. It is open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from noon until 4 p.m. The shelter is closed on Sunday.
This weekend, November 9th and 10th, adult cats at four area animal shelters will be free. All adoption fees will be waived at this Catstravaganza event. Instead, adopters will also be asked to donate at least two cans of cat food or one bag of unopened cat kibble to help feed shelter cats. Food not used in the shelters will be donated to Access. All adult cats available will be a minimum of one year old, fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Many will be micro-chipped.
Once again, local animal shelters are overflowing with adult cats, after what has been a very long kitten season that persisted throughout the warm summer months and into the fall. Jackson County Animal Services, SoHumane.org, Committed Alliance to Strays (C.A.T.S.), and Sanctuary One have a combined 400 cats and kittens either in their facilities or in foster homes awaiting adoption.
Catstravaganza will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at each of the four facilities. No kittens will be available for free, but will be available for adoption at regular fees.
