Oregon State Police say Omer Zvi Aaronson recently arrived in Oregon from Israel. Police said he died at an area hospital from injuries sustained after being struck by a commercial truck as he was crossing the northbound traffic lanes. Oregon State Police say Aaronson reportedly arrived a week ago in Oregon and was living with his father in Ashland.

OSP says their preliminary investigation indicates a 2013 Peterbilt truck pulling two trailers driven by 56-year-old Chic L. Erickson, from Yreka, California, was heading northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 24 when a pedestrian in dark clothing ran onto the freeway in the truck’s path. Erickson braked and tried steering to the left lane but was not able to avoid the pedestrian. The truck sideswiped the pedestrian, later identified as Aaronson.

Investigators are working to confirm why Aaronson was crossing the freeway when he was struck. OSP says Erickson, who was driving for Walgreens Inc., was not injured and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
