Fighting the bug

Nighttime in the Seeker-Conroy household lately is not very peaceful. A chorus of coughing can be heard from Reece's high-pitched baby coughs to Tim's throaty coughs. As you can imagine, we are not getting much sleep lately. All four of us are battling the cold that everyone seems to have right now. Consider yourself lucky if you have not gotten it. Also, wash your hands a little more often and pour another glass of orange juice!

I thought I might be spared when Tim started to lose his voice and then the boys began coughing and sniffling, but I was still feeling fine. Then the initial soreness in the throat started, and I knew I had caught it. I felt the worst this past Saturday. It is extremely hard to take care of sick children when you are feeling awful yourself. My body ached, my throat hurt, and I was coughing non-stop. Thankfully, the boys were sluggish as they battled the virus themselves, so we all laid around and let our immune systems work their magic. After spending much of the weekend in bed, I was feeling a bit more lively Monday and was ready for work. However, I am still coughing quite a bit. I have a bottle of water constantly on hand and hope I can contain my coughing bouts to the commercial breaks.

This is just the sick season, isn't it? Viruses seem to spread like wildfire and there seems to be no way to avoid them. It is one thing for an adult to feel under the weather, but a child is a different story. I hate watching my little guys battle sickness. Quinn had a severe respiratory virus in January 2007 called RSV and spent a week in the hospital on oxygen. It was a terrible experience! I hate that they don't understand what is happening to them, and they sure are cranky when they feel sick. It is a tough situation all around. Perhaps the worst thing is there is not a whole lot you can do about. You just have to rest, drink fluids, and wait for it all to pass.

For those of you also up at night coughing this week....Feel better soon!
