Overnight Suspected Arson

fireMEDFORD, Ore.– Around 2 a.m., Medford Police officers and Medford Fire-Rescue responded to a church for a fire. They say someone intentionally lit a cross on fire.

Fire crews were able to knock down the flames at the Zion Lutheran Church on West 4th Street in Medford, but they say the fire reached into the attic area.

A witness says he was coming home from work and saw the suspected arsonists running away from the church. Officials report that no one has been arrested in this incident. Medford Police said the witnesses saw one of the male suspects throw an object at the cross, causing it to light on fire. Police said there is no further information on the suspects at this time.

The reason for the fire is still under investigation. Federal investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives may be out to further investigate the fire later this morning.
