CENTRAL POINT, Ore — At the 14th annual NewsWatch 12’s Sportsmen’s and Outdoor Recreation Show, big ticket items like boats and RVs are selling better this year than in years past as the country recovers from the Great Recession.
Booking a spot on the show floor is paying off for salesmen at this year’s NewsWatch 12’s Sportsmen’s and Outdoor Recreation Show.
“We’ve sold a couple of boats already… we’ve got another one pending,” said River Marine boat salesperson, Norman Neilson.
Now post-recession, the economy is improving, and sales associates said people are starting to make more expensive purchases.
“People are feeling a little more comfortable with the economy. There’s a lot of people out there who are still hurting, but the people who have a little bit of money are starting to spend it again,” said Neilson.
This is coming in handy for outdoor recreation businesses who were not doing so well a few years ago.
“We had a big recession slump,” said Caveman RV salesperson, Frank Baskins.
However, now the recreation business is in recovery. Caveman RVs said it’s already sold two recreational vehicles in the past couple of days at the outdoor show, and that’s more than it has in the past. Both RV and boat companies said making an appearance at NewsWatch 12’s Sportsmen’s and Outdoor Recreation Show gives them good exposure that will pay off in the future. Local businesses set up on the sales floor said they will run into hundreds of potential buyers within the next couple days.
“We’ve had a lot of different people looking at what we have… they’re not quite ready before taxes or whatever that may be to come back but yeah we’ll get sales out of this show no questions asked,” said Neilson.
