October is still a few days away, but that’s not stopping some local celebrations. Fall is in the air and so are Oktoberfest celebrations, and critically acclaimed films from around the world are taking to Ashland movie screens.
On Saturday, taste a slice of Germany at the 5th annual Oktoberfest at the Frau Kemmling Schoolhaus Brewhaus in Jacksonville.
This celebration includes live entertainment, contests, cooking demonstrations, and activities for the kids and, of course, brats and pit-roasted pork sandwiches with both traditional German beers and local brews. Family activities run from noon to 8 p.m., 21 and over from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Just 20 miles north of Grants Pass, the Historic Wolf Creek Inn is celebrating it’s own Oktoberfest. From Friday through Sunday, enjoy great food, beverages, music, and vendors, admission is $3.
On Saturday, it’s the Annual Phoenix Phestival. The day starts at 8 a.m. with a free pancake breakfast and benefit for the Phoenix Food Pantry, then from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., enjoy live music, food, raffles, and lots of activities for the kids. If wine, fine food and craft beer are more your style, don’t miss the Phlavors of Phoenix from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. It all happens Saturday at Phoenix High School.
The Ashland Independent Film Festival and coming attractions theaters are teaming up for the 23rd Annual “Varsity World Film Week”. Starting Friday, Ashland’s Varsity Theater is home to seven full days of documentaries and films from around the world.
