This Memorial Day weekend is nothing short of spectacular with everything from the traditional to the unusual.
The Fifty-Third Annual Boatnik festivities kicked off today in Riverside Park in Grants Pass. There are carnival rides, food, fireworks, and a boatload of other activities for the entire family. The popular Boatnik parade sets sail through downtown streets on Saturday morning at 10. You’ll be able to spot NewsWatch 12 anchors and reporters in the parade, as well as the centerpiece of the celebration, Sprint and Drag Boat Races, capping off with Monday’s White Water Hydroplane Race. All proceeds benefit local children’s and youth programs.
A Southern Oregon ghost town is holding it’s biggest event of the year. It may look quiet now, but Friday, Buncom Day will bring hundreds of visitors to the small historic town. Enjoy live music, craft and food booths, door prizes, children’s activities, and a parade. Plus, you can join in on one of Buncom’s favorite activities, the chicken splat contest; admission is free.
On Monday, several Memorial Day ceremonies will be held in our area, starting at 9 a.m. at the Fallen War Heroes Memorial at Don Jones Memorial Park in Central Point. Another ceremony is happening at 11 a.m. at the Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point; also at 11 a.m., a Memorial Day Remembrance will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland.
