MEDFORD, Ore. — It’s a mix of holiday traditions, both old and new this weekend, from a Victorian Christmas, to a brand new parade, here are some of the events going on in our area.
Before making that long trip around the world, Santa and his reindeer are making a stop in Southern Oregon. For the next two weekends, Santa will be joined by live reindeer at the Harry and David Country Village. Kids of all ages can have their picture taken with Santa and those famous deer for only $10. Proceeds benefit the South Medford Softball Team. Come visit the reindeer on Friday night from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m to 3 p.m.
Get ready to light up the night Saturday, in downtown Central Point. It’s the First Annual Central Point Lights Parade and tree lighting. The parade starts at 6 p.m. followed by the tree lighting at City Hall at seven. Other activities include hay rides, games and prizes, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.
It’s an event for the whole family this weekend at Josephine County’s largest holiday festival. The Rogue Winterfest at Evergreen Federal Bank’s Bear Hotel features creatively decorated trees and locally produced art along with Evergreen Federal Bank’s Legendary Christmas On Mars exhibit. Visit Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the Snow Queen; engage in family activities and games; enjoy live entertainment; and vote on the People’s Choice Award. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for kids and seniors.
Take a step back in time with Jacksonville’s Victorian Christmas. Listen as the town crier delivers the news; take a wagon ride, sip hot apple cider and coffee while listening to carolers or visiting with Father Christmas from 12:30 to 3:30 on Saturday, noon to 3:30 on Sunday. Saint Joseph’s Catholic Rectory will also be open and decorated for Christmas.
