The best in independent film is at center stage and on the silver screen this weekend. Ashland’s Independent Film Festival launches into its 13th year on Thursday.

At this year’s festival they will show more than 100 films and presentations in 9 theaters. Those films include narratives, documentaries, and short independent films from Southern Oregon and around the U.S.

Some of the guests this year include Ty Burrell from the hit show, “Modern Family”, 2 time Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Barbara Coppel, and documentary writer Mark Monroe. The Ashland Film Festival runs through the weekend wrapping up Monday night.

“Piano Men” at the the Craterian Theatre

There is a reason Elton John and Billy Joel are the super stars they are. In honor of their skills, the Craterian Theatre in Medford is welcoming “Piano Men.”

The multi-sensory 1970’s music and pop culture odyssey stars Jim Witter and brings to life the music of John and Joel.

The music begins at 7:30 this Saturday at the Craterian.

“Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” at Grants Pass High School

A scrumdidilyumptious musical in Grants Pass is sure to delight your sweet tooth.

Theater One-Eleven’s production of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” will take the audience on a trip to a land of pure imagination. You could even get your golden ticket by purchasing a chocolate bar and unwrapping your chance to get into the show for free.

Wonka, Charlie and the umpa-lumpa’s will take the stage Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings at Grants Pass High School. Tickets are $10.

Klamath Basin Home & Garden Show

You can be one of the 4,000 visitors to the Klamath Basin Home & Garden Show this weekend. It’s put on each year by the Basin’s Home Builders Association. The event includes a beer and wine walk as well.

More than 100 vendors will be on hand with products and services for your home and garden. The show kicks off Friday from 4:00 to 8:00.

Get the most out of the event by going Saturday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and then Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Arbor Day Celebration

This year’s Arbor Day celebration in Medford isn’t just about planting, it’s about bringing people together in the community.

People who come out can take a pirate-themed bike ride, go on a treasure hunt, and enjoy the weekend outdoors. The Arbor Day celebration in Medford is on Saturday from 10 to noon in Hawthorne Park.

There will be activities for the whole family, the bike ride starts at noon.
