ROSEBURG, Ore. — Oregon State Police continues their investigation into a single vehicle fatal traffic crash on Tuesday afternoon which resulted in the death of an elderly LaPine man along Highway 138E, about 28 miles east of Roseburg.
According to Lieutenant Doug Ladd, at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a 2003 Dodge Durango driven by 74-year-old Buddy Glen Mires, was eastbound on Highway 138E near milepost 28 when it traveled across the center line and off the north side of the highway.
The Dodge struck a tree head-on and Mires was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say He was using safety restraints and the vehicle’s airbags deployed. The westbound lane was closed for about 2 hours while troopers were investigated and traffic was able to get through the area in both directions.
Preliminary investigation indicates Mires may have had a medical problem that could have been a factor in the crash. OSP troopers from the Roseburg Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
