EUGENE, Ore. — It’s the oldest rivalry in college basketball and these two teams are doing something that’s never been done before. Oregon and Oregon State will meet post season on Wednesday.
The Ducks and Beavers men’s basketball teams have played each other 341 times but they’ve never met in the post-season until Wednesday, when they face each other for the first time in Las Vegas at the PAC-12 Tournament.
Duck fans in Eugene say they’re looking forward to the Wednesday game because the energy from fans and the teams always go up a notch when it’s Ducks versus Beavers.
The Ducks are ranked seventh and Beavers 10th, but fans say when it’s a tournament game against a rival, all rankings go out the door.
“I think that’s just kind of the spirit of competition we have, you know, rival schools. Basically every sport, every game is close even when one team necessarily isn’t good in whatever field, whatever sport. They always bring it. That’s why everyone gets riled up for those games,” said Josh Mazzarella, a Ducks fan.
Duck fans believe they have an upswing momentum going into Wednesday after beating third-ranked Arizona Saturday.
The battle ground for Wednesday nights Civil War will be the MGM Garden Arena and it can be seen on the PAC-12 network at 6 p.m.
