MEDFORD, Ore. — The secret to opening more parks and green space in Medford could be as simple as applying what a college student learns in her capstone project.
The Medford Planning Department and other agencies are working with a University of Oregon student to evaluate the city’s use of open space like parks and gardens.
KC McFerson has taken an in-depth look at how the community’s space could be used, and will make recommendations on the best way for the city to expand.
Mcferson says open space in the city serves environmental and economic purposes.
“They provide social benefits too. They’re a place for the community to gather and enjoy and appreciate some natural beauty,” said McFerson.
McFerson will make her final presentation to the city in the next few weeks, and says her research could be used for city planning as early as this summer.
