Oregon Legislative Session Begins

SALEM, Ore. — Oregon legislators meet in Salem for the first day of this year’s 20 week session.

There are several big issues on the table, including reworking the current higher education structure, budget deficits statewide, talking about welfare programs, and public safety dollars.

They will also look for ways to reduce prison populations, including new sentencing laws and a reward system for good behavior while behind bars.

The gun control debate is expected to be discussed, even though Oregonians as a whole do not seem to support increased regulations.
