WHITE CITY, Ore. — The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department will be on the water this weekend, reminding boaters to be safe. This weekend marks the 6th Annual Operation Dry Water.
In 2013 the Sheriff’s Department arrested 22 people for boating under the influence. Sheriff’s deputies say boating under the influence is just as dangerous and just as illegal as driving a car under the influence.
Officials report alcohol is involved in 30% of boating deaths in the state. Anyone with a paddle is considered a boat operator, and if caught under the influence, you can face a fine of up to some $6,000, among other penalties.
