Online Classes Get Ready to Start

OnlineMEDFORD, Ore. — In just a matter of days, kids across the Rogue Valley will head back to the classroom, but some students will head back to school, without ever leaving the house. They are going to school entirely online.

The Connections Academy is one online school offering classes K through 12. Students get their textbooks shipped to them and lesson plans emailed throughout the course of each semester.

“A lot of it is online so that’s nice so that way I don’t have to come up with the curriculum, I don’t have to worry about, math. I can’t do that there are teachers and it’s awesome. If there are questions, we have a number, we have email addresses,” says Jennifer Weirs, a mother of an online student.

In 2005, the first year Oregon Connections was offered, there were 650 students enrolled. This year there are more than 3,700 Oregon students in the program.
