Officers Cleared in Suspect Shooting

4-4 jbo oisMEDFORD, Ore. – Two Idaho fugitives said to be responsible for an officer involved shooting will face prosecution in a Jackson County Court.

On Thursday evening, a grand jury gave the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office the go-ahead to press charges against Wayne Pearson and Shavon Willard.

The two suspects face charges after motor vehicle chase and attempted ramming of a police car last month on Hilton Road in Medford.

The decision opens the door for what could be up to a year of legal proceedings here before the two are extradited to Idaho on additional fugitive charges.

“Idaho can extradite them once they conclude their local charges. So, no matter how it’s concluded, then at that point Idaho would have 21 days to come and get them,” said District Attorney Beth Heckert.

In addition to passing the indictment, the grand jury also cleared the four police officers involved in the shooting – saying their actions were justified.

Two of the officers were from Medford police, which will be conducting their own internal review as a matter of procedure.

What about the ATF agents being cleared?
Still unclear why that agency was involved in this warrant arrest.
