Big Windy Claims Life of Firefighter

Near Grants Pass, Ore. — Early Tuesday morning 19 year old firefighter, Jesse Trader, was killed while helping battle the Big Windy Complex in Josephine County.

Sheriff Gilbertson says the young man was driving a water tanker and was killed when it rolled into a ditch along Bear Camp Road at milepost 10 near Soldier Camp.

Firefighters following the tanker immediately stopped to assist. Just minutes later an advanced life support ambulance arrived but all efforts to save Jesse were unsuccessful.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
