Maryssa Becker had a season for the ages with the North Medford Softball team, pitching the Black Tornado to its sixth State Championship. Wednesday, the standout was recognized for her outstanding campaign, being named Gatorade Oregon Softball Player of the Year.
Becker was nearly unhittable all year for North. She posted a record of 26-0, With an era of 0.43. Becker had 313 strikeouts in less than 200 innings and also hit .475 with seven home runs and 47 runs batted in. The Black Tornado star did all this while maintaining a GPA of 3.94.
As good as all these numbers sound, they could get even better. Becker just finished up her junior season and will be back with North Medford next year. Becker is now a finalist for the National Softball Player of the Year Award, which will be announced next week.
