TRAIL, Ore. -- A health advisory for an algae bloom on a Southern Oregon reservoir that has amazed state environmental experts is expected to last into December.

It's been three months since officials issued an advisory against contact with the water of Lost Creek Lake.

Cold fronts and plunging water temperatures have yet to kill the bloom at the reservoir north of Medford.

Once the bloom disappears, the advisory will remain in effect two weeks to allow toxins released by the dying algae to dissipate.

Algae blooms commonly occur in warm weather. Lost Creek has had a history of fall blooms, but none so persistent.

The advisory warns anglers not to eat fish, or at least to remove fat, skin and organs.
