KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- A Klamath Falls job and career training agency that misused more than $1.6 million in federal funds has closed its doors and dissolved its board of directors without repaying the money it owes the government.

It's been two years since a state investigation revealed financial mismanagement at the Klamath-Lake Employment Training Institute.

But no one knows who's liable or who will be required to reimburse at least $400,000 or more the institute still owes.

Officials said the investigation into the institute's finances is continuing, and its supervising agency is reviewing another $2.3 million.

It's unclear when a final payback figure will be determined, or whether taxpayers in Klamath and Lake counties will foot the bill.
