CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- A homicide investigation is underway for man who was found dead Thursday afternoon from an apparent gunshot wound on the Bear Creek Greenway.

Investigators say it looks like the man was a transiant who had been living near the area where he died. They are unsure of the time of death.

"It was obvious it was not from natural causes. At this time it's being treated as though it's a homicide until which time it can be determined otherwise," says Jackson County Under Sheriff Rod Countryman.

Sheriff's deputies say the majority of crimes reported on the Greenway happen between transients or people who are involved with drugs. There have been murders, rapes, and other crimes committed there. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Medford, Central Point, and Oregon State Police frequently patrol the greenway in an effort to minimize crime.

Meanwhile, sheriffs are working to uncover more about the case. If you have any information, you are urged to contact police.
